Military--KC-135--I think it's a good-looking airplane, but I'm also biased because Dad flew them.

Finally, someone who gets it! Where and when did your Dad fly them?

Dad flew KC-97's at Malmstrom in Great Falls, MT when I was born (1962). He went to the KC-135 with the 7th Air Refueling Squadron at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth in 1964. He flew in Southeast Asia in '65 and '66 (in fact, he took part in the first Arc Light mission in 1965 and saw the explosion from the B-52 collision, if you're familiar with it). Dad left the Air Force in 68 and went to Western Airlines.

I looked at your profile information after I sent the message and I see you're just a couple of years older than I am...which makes you still just a kid (I remember when people who were 50 were OLD!)

Was it a post of yours here or elsewhere that talked about Grissom having some of the old Looking Glass -135's that had air refueling capabiity?

Where and when did you go through UPT?

Yes, we had 8 tankers that had been EC-135s of one type or another. When their mission ended, they were returned to tanker configuration (the boom had never been removed) and the receive equipment stayed in place. Our wing flew them on some interesting operations - the Libya raid in 1986, being one. They called (somewhat officially) KC-135A/RT but we usually refered to them as RT-135s or just RTs. Receiver refueling in the -135 was a blast!

We also had 4 or 6 D-models. They had been C-135s, used for some kind of aerial mapping program in the 1960s. When that was done, they turned back into tankers, but had enough systems differences - 5-rotor brakes vs. 4-rotor on the As, and some other things that I don't recall offhand - that they got the designation KC-135D. We had two different versions of EC-135, the G and L model. I always said Grissom led the league in odd-ball -135s.

I went to Columbus for UPT, started in class 85-02, but washed back to 85-03 in the middle of T-38 phase due to an extended DNIF.

I am not a big fan of military aircraft, but I do have to post the B-17 because my Dad flew left seat in WW II; shot down over Schweinfurt.
Without a doubt, of all commercial aircraft is the B707-321 (Pan American A320 variant)
Currently flying, the B747 and the A340 - I have a real soft spot for four engine jets.
Other historic variants - Comet 4C perhaps the most elegant plane ever built, and honorable mention to Concorde.

Commercial: 747, DC-10

Favorite of all time: F-14 Tomcat, none better. Ever.
