Nikon Announces 24MP Crop Sensor Camera

In our world of aviation photography, more pixels on target is the name of the game. Nikon finally releases a camera based on the excellent Sony 24MP APS-C sensor with the new D3200. See the press release for full details...

where is the D300s replacement for pete's sake

and for that matter where is the 80-400 AF-S...oh that's right, not being built because they're too busy refreshing the 16-85, the lens that didn't need a refresh

I see they are also releasing the 3200 in a red body....I haven't seen anything so ridiculous since the "Jackie Chan" edition of the D60

Who is that marketed to? RuPaul???

got a little frustration going on today

William, fear not... the 80-400mm will be coming eventually, hopefully in 70-400mm VRII with Nano Coating.

Interesting is the rumor on the 18-300mm which will be terrific with the D800 or D3200 in a plane. I have been carrying both the 70-200mm with TC17 and 24-70mm in order to cover taxiing/take-off as well as air to air opportunities... too much trouble. 18-300 will be terrific :P

Manny. ..... Didn't read the article yet, but how is the noise on the higher ISO range? Whats the max. rate on continuous shooting in terms of frames per sec?

I can't imagine the high ISO being very good...it's an entry-level DSLR that goes for $699.99 with a kit lens. It's 4 fps:

That being said, it seems pretty nice as an entry-level model.

I have the 3200 and can say that without equivocation the night shots are amazing on it, 3200 ISO has NO noise at all. One thing though is there is no NEF support as of right now.

this is a decent example, basically there was no light except what was coming off the boat.

I wouldn't say that's "NO noise at all", but it's not too bad for a $700 camera that comes with a lens.

As Cary said, it isn't nearly noiseless... but for a 24MB crop sensor, that's amazing :-)

it was either this camera or the D800 and honestly for the money the 3200 makes sense

D800 is stellar when it comes to detail as long as you can fill the frame. If filling the frame is not an option, the D3200 is the best camera right now for giving the most resolution in a 1.5x crop area.
