    JFK 4-14-12

Was out for a short period today with my Dad and Eric at the mounds. Slow start, but it picked up nicely! Can't complain about pink Delta and Air Berlin One World (Dennis :-)).

Well...........here are a few of mine (bounced between Bayswater and North Woodmere).

Manny.......below are the few photo's taken with your lens (200-400mm), I have to agree with you they seem to be slightly fuzzy, but this was the best I could do. Tell me what you think? How did yours come out with the 80-400mm?

Mark, it is amazing what you pulled off with the 200-400mm at that distance. As I said, tis lens is well known to be poor-resolving at long subject distances and I just wanted your confirmation. It isn;t so much OOF as it is unable to resolve fine details... milky contrast edges I call it. Also, the entire right side of the FOV is somewhat blurry as if the VR elements are lose, even if turned off...

This lens has been to Nikon a couple of times and I have never been happy with the results. Where it shines is at close range (subject distance that is) and wide open when it gets dark. I have an extra stop of light than the next cheaper choice from Nikon. I will unfortunately have to invest in the 400mm f/2.8 since there is no cheaper alternative right now to the 200-400mm f/4 sadly... I hear the VR II model is just as bad... design flaw I believe... only thing they improved was the VR (IS in Canon land) and the addition of Nano Coating (for contrast improvement)

So I will keep it for when it shines (airshows, close range F-15/F-16/F-18 high speed passes) as the other benefit is the instant focus and tracking. But I may wait until Nikon copies the Canon with the built in 1.4x converter.

    I [really] appreciate your input!

Finally got a few processed. As always a pleasure shooting with Manny & Mark.
I had rented Canon's 400mm f/5.6L (non-IS) for the weekend. Gave me some really nice results.

and the "Star" of the day for me...

Mark, I will blame the heat haze this time. I got SLIGHTLY better FOCUS results with yours but, not much better see below..

and a 100% crop UNTOUCHED... 40 sharpness on Lightroom 4 in case you were wondering.
