Video: When Surfing the Fence in Saint Maarten Goes Terribly Wrong

The jet blast warning signs at Maho Beach are generally ignored, but a new video of a woman face planting behind a JetBlue takeoff might prove maybe the signs are there for good reason.

I've done the fence surfing, this looks pretty bad. The jetblue pilots on occasion do taxi into position closer to the fence then some other aircraft. I've seen the "follow me" truck come out and have the aircraft move up away from the fence before take off.

    SXM STUPIDITY!

Once again, stupidity puts spotting in jeopardy. I've never been to SXM, and unfortunately stunts like this will probably ruin any chance of enjoying sometime in the future!

One day I would like to visit that airport just to check it out, however, being that I am 42 and don't plan on visiting anytime soon, I know that I won't be hanging from a fence - even I'm smarter than that!

Its the thing to do in sxm, I've done it, stood behind a 757. Like I said in the other thread jetblue pilots taxi closer to the fence then others and they tend to go to full thurst before releasing the break.

Sucks that she face planted into the edge of the curb, but if you're going to ride the fence, you'd better be prepared to go flying like the man in the 3 huge warning signs is. Hopefully the police don't start making everyone stay on the beach side, like they did at least once on my last trip there (not just in the middle -- all the way down the side, too).

According to this article, she got a "deep cut to her head", and (who I'm guessing is) he got a broken leg:

Why not put a blast fence there? They couldn't build it very high, but it would be better than nothing.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Good Morning America just did a story on this. About how dangerous SXM is.
