JFK 3/5/12 Backlit from the backyard

Spotted for a few minutes at home today. Just tried to get a few of the heavies in the afternoon on 31R (and the A380 on 31L) with some funky light:

great backyard you have there! love the shot with the banking 747 in the background!

In theory, I could get some shots of 31L arrivals from my mom's backyard in Lawrence...but I don't think the neighbor would appreciate me cutting a couple of their trees down

Thanks, that was pretty lucky timing! I believe it was an Air China 747.
Luckily, there is pretty much nothing in our way from seeing 31R arrivals. Sadly, the A380 will never be lined up there. That would be fantstic.

Never say never... I believe once all the foreigners get their fleets converted to A380s, JFK may be pressed to fix the problems with 31R and A380s... however, it would mean yet another runway shuffle to deal with ... ugh!

What exactly is the issue with 31R and the A380, anyway? What is at the end of the runway blocking them?

I was disappointed with my 787 stuff so I headed over to an airport I can actually shoot at.

It's hard to take chances but sometimes it's better if you do

There's an antenna next to one of the turnoffs that the wing would clip.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9
