Stan.............awesome image!!! This is front page material. Here are some images from this morning (4/28) - the day after the Enterprise arrived. Folks were still stopping on the Van Wyke as well as families taking photos from the bridge. Lots of PA folks on the ramp getting images as well. As I walking over to the bridge ramp a T-38 departed and later in the morning the DC-9 departed as well.

A pano composed of 5 images (click on image for larger view)

Nose shot of the 747 (notice the name of the pilots and flight engineers as well as the shuttles ferried) - Click on image for larger view

    Thanks Ron!
It was beyond bitter cold at Battery Park. Twice the waves sent some spray at us and we were standing their since 7AM.

I'm still very surprised she came in yesterday and did not call it off again. IMO the conditions were not great along the Hudson.

The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

How do you get such crisp shots of the T-38? Do you have something to help steady the camera, or were you using a high ISO?

Thanks Bill. And to answer your question, I was handheld, and set in aperture priority set at f8 and ISO200

Yeah, as of this morning, it was in the hangar. Easily visible from the road but the nose is so far underneath that it's very difficult to take any photos of it.

I was with the CNN crew in Red Hook (along with one guy from Getty Images and about 40-50 members of the public), where we froze our butts off in 30mph gusts. Shutter finger got numb, but I got some shots:

Awesome photos everybody. Friday was the ultimate day for spotters. Read my next posting which will make us feel better. I am curious if anybody spotted by LGA, by the GW Bridge, the VZ Bridge or even over the TRACON. I'd love to see those views. The Orbiter looks so great atop the SCA 747; I secretly wish that it could be displayed like that forever at the Museum but NASA would have to de-commission the SCA and remove all of its controls, just as they did to Concorde "Alpha-Delta". The Intrepid is having enough trouble finding room for the Orbiter on its Flight Deck let alone a 747 to boot, but wouldn't it look great!

Start charging-up batteries for June 4. That is the day the Enterprise is scheduled to begin her 2-day journey to Intrepid. She must be hoisted up to then placed on the barge. Great photo ops, though not equal to her Friday journey in scope. She will arrive at Intrepid on June 6. Exact times to be determined. Something to look forward to! This is deja vue for those of us freezing out in the cold by the Hudson not so long ago waiting for the Concorde barge to sail-by. At least June will be a pleasure.
