    KAFW-Fort Worth Alliance-Misc.

I guess you could say that this is my other "home" airport, being a few miles down the road from our place in Texas. It is, however, a 7 mile bike ride if one wished to avoid multi-lane freeways, although I believe there is a member on this site who knows a thing or two about spotting by bike...

Anyhow, Alliance is an odd little airport. Home to an AA maintenance center, we get lots of AA action, but incidentally, only heavies. Nothing but 767's and 777's It is also very popular with transient military traffic, and a weekend morning is odd if there aren't double digit numbers of T-38s, T-6s, and other trainers. I've seen everything from EA-6B prowlers to V-22s. Also located at AFW is a FedEx hub, although you wouldn't know it aside from between Christmas and Thanksgivings due to the graveyard hours they pull, and a Bell Helicopter training facility.

Spotting is a real breeze here, with the field eminently accessible by car and foot.

The Holiday Cargo rush granted me my first airborne DC-10, my first A300 of any variety, and had I been patient, I would have gotten an A310 as well.

Some transient action, and AA traffic

I hope Y'all enjoyed! If you ever find yourself with time to kill in the DFW area, AFW is worth the drive. Feel free to PM me for location info.

    Kaz,

Thank you. My 50D was notorious for rendering the least attractive angles the sharpest, hence the nice, sharp, rear view. Granted, it is a DC-10, so she looks good from all angles....

Nice set there Nick, I love the T-38 jet exhaust in front of the hangar. One of these days I'll make the trip.

The real winners for me are the T-1A Jayhawk and the F-18 ... NICE!

Thanks guys! As far as variety is concerned, AFW is pretty nice.

Manny, That T-1A did about 15 missed approaches that night. He put on quite the show.

We used to go into AFW all the time for practice approaches when I was flying the T-1...

Great airport, awesome controllers, nice FBO and you can't beat Babe's friend chicken or Bone Daddy's!!

What else can be said about the DC-10? It was love at first sight for me. It's the only plane that nearly caused me to be in a car accident, as I was paying too much attention to it, and not enough to the road.

Nicely done.........great light......that first DC-10 reminds me of morning departures off of RWY 4L at the mounds. The bike ride was definitely worth it!
