    ATA Airlines

Got to thinking about ATA recently, feeling rather nostalgic about them. Used to fly on the JFK-PIE segment of the JFK-PIE-SJU segment from time to time in the 90's on the 727's... I don't have any shots of my own but figured we could use a good tear jerker thread on the site again. Don't be bashful, post your ATA stuff.

    Here's an L-1011 in Ireland.

    752 at LGA.

Approaching LGA's rwy 22 with the skyline in the background.

And the same exact photo as previous, but from the opposite side on the Empire State Building observation deck, with the plane in the very same place (And the park I took the previous photo from behind it).

    Here's N301TZ, "American Dream"

I flew LGA-MDW-LGA back in 2003 on a 738 and 752. I remember how easy and convenient MDW airport was. Outbound I sat next to a mother with a screaming infant and the FA moved me to an empty middle seat in the exit row. On the flight back we were diverted to PHL due to storms and had a bird strike on approach. A nice FA let me use her cell phone to tell call my ride about the diversion. Decent experience.

As a kid I had always been intrigued by the ATA logo on the tail, so when the opportunity arose to fly them in 1998 I took it. IND-FLL and back on 727's; to FLL in the regular livery and returning to Indy in the tropical scheme. I remember we hit some bumpy air over Georgia and the landing at IND was worse than my Flight Simulator landings- the FA made some announcement to the effect of "Well now that we're finally on the ground, welcome to Indianapolis...". Last 727's I ever flew. The service seemed just as good as on the majors.

Caught this "Amtran" approaching PHL around '99 or thereabouts:

For Mr. Derner. I thought of you when I saw this rolling.
