Images from the JFK Pan Am Terminal

I came across a few scanned slides taken at the old JFK Pan Am Terminal roof top parking garage. I spent many days, many hours taking slides from the roof top terminal and never once was I questioned or asked what I was doing. There were so many good times spent there, most images have been traded to other collectors but the memories remain.

I'd like to see if there other photographers out there with similar shots.

    Hope you enjoy,

    AJ

Some of my best JHS & HS years (1978-1984) were spent on the Rooftop. I always regretted not getting open shutter night shots of the three green DC-10s. Air Afrique, Nigeria Airways & TransAmerica. They were simply beautiful when they overnight-ed on the hardstand, bathed in those sodium floodlights.

I'm curious, AJ: did you know John Gilmartin and/or Fred (both photographers) and a guy named Ben who strictly spotted for reg numbers?

I got my first camera, a Canon AE-1 in 1979 and would visit JFK almost every weekend until late 1983 when I went in the Air Force. The stuff that came into JFK never ceased to amaze me, this is still true today.

The names don't ring a bell but I'm sure we crossed paths and more than likely talked about what was happening.

Awesome stuff gentlemen .... when in HS, I use to visit the Pan Am roof top as well right after my last class, and would do homework in the food court. It was nice seeing those Pan Am 747 up close at the gates.

Can't believe no one's commented on the Air France Concorde sitting behind the tail of the (Nigerian?) DC-10!

Anyone have 70s-80s era pics INSIDE the Pan Am Worldport or other JFK terminals (Eastern?)?

There was nothing worth taking-quite frankly. The terminal was pretty dismal looking. The only fun sections were the rooftop and the ground crew station. You could go down there (at least as a non-threatening teenager) and par take in the fine cuisine as well as put your nose right up to the nose gear of a PAA 747-SP. The main terminal had the atmosphere of a city hospital.
