    JFK 1/16/2012 - SIA A380 and More

It was a cold morning, but at least there wasn't any wind off Jamaica Bay! We had a nice group out to greet the new A380 service - it was good to see some new folks, and put faces to the names on the board!

JFK was landing Rwy 4, and the light was just about perfect from Bayswater...

But you know it wouldn't last - they soon switched to Rwy 31L/R, so we stayed where we were and wait for Singapore to arrive on 31L

This was an unexpected treat, support for Thursday's POTUS visit.

    And finally, the main event.

While we were out there, this guy made the landing of the day.

Good to see everyone this morning, and thanks for the opportunity to call you this morning to determine the spotting location, Moose.

Am I the only one who got heat haze on their Singapore shots? Mine are pretty bad. Oddly, the Korean A380 had a little heat haze but nowhere near as bad as Singapore.

Nice meeting you John... Don;t feel bad... Cold Day, Open Water, Bright Sun == TONS OF HEAT HAZE. The difference in temperature from the water to the ambient air is far too great. This is why you want to always shoot CLOSE to your subject.. hence why I wanted the 4s

Nice seeing about bunch of us out and about! Glad to see we had good light for most of the day. Here are a few of mine from today's outting.

Just as I got to the mounds and stepped out of the car, this puppy showed up (I didn't even have a chance to make it to the hill).

I just got home and Nick is still driving to Richmond. It was a pleasure meeting everyone once again and spotting with. On Sunday me and Nick braved the cold at HoBe to get those killer departure shots we've been seeing here and we did. We concluded departure shots are more dynamic. When I think about the cold my body still shivers. I have never never felt so cold in my life but for me, it was now or never as this is my last JFK trip for a long time to come. You will see why soon when my pictures start popping up from strange location. That American Eagle ribbon special eluded me for the second time at JFK. I am trying to figure out how I missed it but rather than that we had two days of story to tell so let me get back to my camera and get busy. There probably some 1000 frames to sort out.

Were you up at JFK on Sunday? I wish I would have known I would have given you a call and especially knowing you were over at Panera. I would have said to drive across the street when I met up with Kaz and Manny at Costco for a bit before I headed home.
