Colbert Report on Air Travel and Spirit Airlines

Colbert did a pretty good rip on Spirit Airlines last night, mainly about their plan t o sell advertizing space all over the plane. Very funny stuff. Starts at 2 minutes in.

spirit airlines isn't the first. about seven years ago, i flew on a budget carrier out of singapore called tiger air. though the outside of the aircraft were still painted up as tiger, the overhead bins had ads on them looking like a subway car or city bus. the tray tables and flight attendant uniforms were sponsored by visa. you could not bring your own food or drink onboard; if you wanted to eat or drink anything, you had to buy onboard.

interesting thought i just had - an airline's paint must either be logo-less or be that of the carrier. to put another name on the outside, you generally need to obtain a "DBA" authorization.
