    Aerial Photography

    Had my first opportunity to shoot from a plane this week. I was really stoked!

    This was my platform for the evening, Cessna 172 with nice big opening windows!

    The local school;

    The airport, KRNH; runway 14/32, grass runway 4 and a lake for the seaplanes!

    The Arcola High Bridge;

    Our approach to Runway 4;

    Had a great time, the wind only caught the camera once! Please give me a harsh critique on what I can do better the next time. Basic settings were Canon XSi, 17-40mm, F8, 1/400 second and ISO 200.

    Thanks,
    Jeremy in Minnesota

    Just up the contrast a bit on the air-to-ground shots; they'll look amazing.

    Air-to-ground is also a great premise for tilt-shift.

    Just to add to what Mark said, up the contrast, and tone down the blues just a touch. In aerial photography you tend to get more haze than if you were on the ground. You can see it in the bridge and airport overview shots. You warm that bridge pic up and it is going to pop off the screen. Nice job.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

    Here is a contrast bump up;

    Here is a contrast bump and vibrance increase.

    I am still not sure/comfortable with the edits. Here is the large unedited jpg if anyone else wants to have a crack at editing.

    Any comments suggestions on the shutter speed/f-stop for aerial photos? Would it be better to stop down to F5.6 and get a higher shutter speed?

    I fixed it, it was missing the Great Lakes!
    The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

    Jeremy...this was just touching up the photo you had already posted...
    Adjusted levels in Blue channel & the RGB combined channel.
    Added a warming filter.

    Thanks John. That is what it should look like! I will have a go at editing these again.
