I was down at the Airpower Museum today when Paul Farber said "I'm going flying, want to come along?" Well, he didn't have to ask twice...
Heading south off Rwy 19, heading to the south shore.
Over the Great South Bay, heading to Bayport Aerodrome.
That's not someone's back yard, that's Bayport Aerodrome.
On the ground at Bayport.
We departed south out of FRG, and followed the shoreline east to Bayport. A short stop to say hello to the guys there, and we were back in the air. We retraced our route back to Captree, then entered the busy pattern at FRG, heading well north on downwind before being cleared back toward the airport. In all, we had about an hour of flight time. I would have taken more photos, but Paul had me flying much of the way...
What a fun way to spend an afternoon! While I was busy looking for traffic, watching for landmarks so I could figure out where we were, and trying to keep an eye on the instruments, I made sure to take a few moments and soak in the experience - the sound of the radial engine, the feel of the controls, and the amazing sight of looking out the canopy, seeing blue sky, puffy clouds, and a brilliant sun overhead.
It's a beautiful airplane, flies well, and sounds spectacular! Thanks Paul!
