LGA - 7/15/11 (Worlds Fair Marina)

I was heading to the Met game Friday night, meeting friends in the Marina parking lot for some pre-game tailgating. I got there early, and I spent about an hour and a half shooting before they started to arrive. When I got there, LGA was on the Expressway Visual to 31, but after about 30 minutes, switched to 13 departures, which lasted throughout the night.

I think this is the first time I've ever caught the Colts jet.

This guy actually overshot the turn, and had to correct back a good bit.

    Polar bears!

As I said, after a bit they switched over to 13 departures. Eventually, they even had a headwind for them...

Several of these AA Mad Dogs used the whole runway to get off the ground.

They killed the light on a few shots, but for the most part, the big, puffy clouds made for some nice backgrounds.

US Airways is now air-dropping floatplanes out the back of their A319s.

Looks like they replaced the radome on this A321, and didn't have any with the new paint scheme in stock.

Caught three different UA schemes, including the first time I've shot the new hybrid UA/CO colors.

Was a really nice afternoon - not too hot, a nice breeze, and I could sit on a park bench and shoot without even having to get up. Does it get any better than that? And no, I didn't have any encounters with law enforcement. I'll try to post some game photos (and maybe even some of Thursday's shots from Firestone...) in a day or two.

Nice set Moose. That Colts image kind of looks like an air to air shot because of the angle...good one!

The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".

Nice set. Summer day, full cabin, full wings to go on a long stage, and the MDs need every inch of the 7000'. You get the same effect off DCA's similar length runway - some of those Dogs headed for DFW make line-drive takeoffs over Gravelly Point, shaking the ground at full power and setting off car alarms.
