    747-8i To Visit Bradley

I know someone had mentioned them wanting the 747 to visit BDL, and it is! Today's flight plan is as follows:
21-Jun-2011 B748/Q Bradley Intl (KBDL) Snohomish County (KPAE) 05:30PM EDT 07:48PM PDT Scheduled
21-Jun-2011 B748/L Charlotte/Douglas Intl (KCLT) Bradley Intl (KBDL) 03:55PM EDT 05:21PM EDT Scheduled
21-Jun-2011 B748/L Memphis Intl (KMEM) Charlotte/Douglas Intl (KCLT) 12:55PM CDT 03:10PM EDT Scheduled
21-Jun-2011 B748/L Snohomish County (KPAE) Memphis Intl (KMEM) 07:15AM PDT 12:55PM CDT Scheduled

I'm going to try to get it at Charlotte today, very excited for this one!

I'm leaving work early, grabbing the kids, my gear, and then heading to BDL! Hope I make it in time and traffic doesn't hold me up.

Also, there is forecast of isolated t-storms for BDL between 5-6. Hope I don't get all the way up there and it ends up getting diverted because of a storm.

Steve--I'm getting my butt out there as well lol! Charlotte is expecting sunny, hot weather. The problem is a possible delay from Memphis, their forecast is huge storms all day. Hopefully she's able to land and take off on time:/.

Hpefully. Looks as though they may have expected that as they have her on teh ground for a bit before taking off to BDL. Maybe they have that extra time in there incase of a delay. I just checked the BDL ATIS and the longest runway is closed until 18:00. I hope that doesn't impact the arrival. Not sure if Runway 33 at BDL can handle her or not, but would definitely make for a better viewing as I won't have to do the dash-n-grab method since I'll be able to park in a parking lot.

Looks like it will only be a land, taxi, and takeoff. Could you divert it to Boston please :)

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Yeah, thats pretty much what it looks like to me. Wish it would stick around a bit and hope it lands on 24 so I can get it landing and then when it comes back around to take off.

From reading the 748-8 Production thread on the Blue Site sadly does not appear to be a 747-8I but an 8F (Freighter) reg N600F, the 20th and newest one off the line. Pretty sure this is the 1st one for Atlas Air so hopefully in Atlas Air Colors. Looking forward to the photos.

Unfortunately it's not the Atlas bird. It's N6009F aka RC523 which is in an all white color scheme. It will be delivered to NCA ( Nippon Cargo) eventually . AFAIK it's F&R functioning and reliability tests.

    Here We Go...

Here's how my day at Charlotte turned out:
We get to the overlook at about 1:00, which overlooks 18C/36C, and you can also distantly see 18L and 23 arrivals and departures. The new runway (18R/36L) is behind you, and trees block most of the approach, unless you get a loud plane and you see it through the trees. About 3:00, and it's about at Charlotte, and I'm constantly checking FlightAware and listening to Tower seeing where it's going to be. 18C is the longest of all of the runways, and it's most convenient to the hangars and terminals vs. 18R. Well, I see on FlightAware they have her lined up for 18R, so we dash over, and see nothing. We return to the overlook--nothing. Great. Where is the mystery plane? The only hints I'm getting is planes landing on 18R and saying "WOAH, that's a BIG plane!". So I hear ATC ask if he wants a 18R departure, which never happens. Ever. I start going nuts and telling my mom to whip the car around, and drive the whole length of the runway (we had to drive to the 36L end to see it after rotation), and right as we got there, I hear "BOE523, RNAV to WEKIN, runway 18R cleared for takeoff". And I hear nothing. Out of nowhere, a huge white plane appears, and I try to capture the best shot...here she is...

Not as bad as it could have been, but not as good either. Either way, what a great experience to see her.
