STD, is that like when the Concorde lost its rudder in flight?
The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".
Getting back to the original question, one recent and notable aviation failure came to mind - the Eclipse 500. Even though they sold a small number, they lost over a billion dollars. Someone is trying to get it going again - good luck!

Got another one. How about the Spruce Goose? Only built one, and that one aircraft flew (barely) only once.

BUMP... YES, but the failure of the Spruce Goose does lead to some nice firewood if desired. Mabe a nice Glenlivet in front of a nice stripper pole with a fire lit by Spruce Wood from the Goose on a cold winter day..... The Spruce Goose can still be a win...... Just not for Howard Hughes....for him, it sucked!

No mention of the Tu-144?
Spotters have been Homeland Security before HS was a glimmer in the president's eye.
Now THAT was a colossal failure. Even the Concorde was a success compared to the "Concordskii". Less than a year of revenue flights???
I wouldn't even say that the Paris accident killed it, there just was never a demand that would justify the Charger's existence. What a beautiful and intimidating looking commercial aircraft. At least we were able to use it for some testing a few years ago. I'd love to see it with Kennedy tower behind it! I can dream
