    Well, that clearly shows how spotters can be of tremendous help rather than the danger some would be led to believe. I wonder how much anyone ELSE knew about the potentially disastrous incident other than the spotters...

    Not knowing the full facts I do not want to be purely speculative but it seems odd to me that the crew decided to continue to Sao Paulo when they were advised the tire may have deflated.
    I must say I would be suprised ATC didnt notice it or the smoke from the tower as well. It just goes to show- as you guys say if you see something, report it- sounds stupid to call the tower etc but clearly like in this case its not. Obviously in this case they couldnt positively say it was from the DL jet and its lucky I guess the situation didn't worsen on arrival.
    Qantas orders 188 narrow body aircraft!!!
