    PHL - 4/21/2011

Interesting [read: annoying] day...there was an overcast layer hovering over the south side of the airport from 8 to 10:30ish (blocking the sun), and it was clear to the north. Then another thin overcast layer returned to block the sun around 3:30. Of course, those two times were when all of the good stuff came in, and it was clear during the rest of the day. Here are some of the highlights...I took shots of the UA Retro and Colts 1 taking off, and both were hampered by clouds blocking the sun. It literally started clearing up 5 minutes after Retro left.

Thanks Joe! Yeah, Colts 1 was a nice surprise, especially since it was the only AirTran 717 that I saw that day. I have photos of it already, but no side-on shots. Good seeing you there!

Cary, welcome to my hell... hahaha. Yesterday I had no chance to go out and it was a PERFECT day clear skies and sunny. Today I had a bit of time to hang out and of course totally overcast. When the sun came out, it was for a brief moment, still behind clouds but, some of it. The bird I was after did not move UNTIL the sun was blocked again LOL.

All and all, you pics are wonderful. Thank you!

I did shoot all the US heavies, but I've gotten them so many times that I didn't submit them yet. Will post a few here later. UA Retro has been to PHL at least 3 times already, but it's always under cover of night or clouds/rain. Now, I just have to get her in better lighting.
