    Andrews AFB JSOH 2011

I am going to attend the JSOH this year but I can only go on Saturday the 21st. I know some of us had been thinking of going... So while I can only go Saturday, this show is best enjoyed Friday and Monday when all the pretty ladies arrive and depart (the planes that is ;-)

    Cheers!

Come one come all... Andrews is a great venue. And you may get to see AF-1 coming or going ;-)

BTW, as far as photography goes, it isn't exactly terrific if they stick to the flightline over the runway. Distance is a bit far. And the sun is in your face until around 2pm. :-(

But, they get so many different aircraft and equipment being all the services are represented.

Nice... so how are we all going to meet up on Saturday? I will be wearing my NYC Aviation T-Shirt or my ThrustImages T-Shirt ... say we meet by the announcer's tent at 11am? That would give us time to arrive, catch statics, eat, settle down, whatever :-)

Haven't post for a while because my work schedule. But I will find time off to see some of the air shows this summer.

I will be at Andrews AFB for JSOH 2011. Since I have a conference at Philly the next Monday, my plan is to drive to Andrews AFB for the Sunday show, then drive to Philly after the show.

Some pictures from JSOH last year.

LOL... well, maybe I run into you and say hi anyway. Will you be all over or just in one spot? My hope s to make it early enough to shoot some statics without people in the way... the rest will be for pure enjoyment as I am not "officially" covering it for WASN

Just curious is 80-400 enough or do you need 500 for this show. Was having a discussion with a friend who is going and needs to borrow one of my lenses. Thanks.

Fred, 600mm is not short at JSOH, and this year proved it with what seemed as a flightline 1/2 a mile away. The F-15 was a spec of dust most of the demo as was the F-18. My favorite parts (the Take-Off and the minimum radius turns) were ruined by distance :-(

I was speaking to a Canonite using a 600mm f/4 on a Wimberly and he said it was just about right LOL.

I shot mostly 70-200mm + TC17 as the 200-400mm f/4 is at Nikon for maintenance along with the non focusing D2Xs :-(

On FF with 340mm is rough at a show with such distance from the crowd... but I felt much better when seeing throngs of people using their iPhone 4s all over the place

Thanks Manny. My friend actually invited me to Fridays show. I used my 80-400 and got mixed results.

Yes I love the people with i phones or the 18-55 kit lense.

I always feel that they can get MUCH MUCH closer on Friday's show for the families and armed forces personnel.. but sometimes they don't. At Westfield/Barnes last year, the Friday show was ROCKING HOT and only lukewarm on Saturday and decidedly boring on Sinday (from what I was told, as the rains drove me away)

Don't those iPhones have a 600mm lens! This was my first JSOH air show. I have mixed feelings. I liked the static displays, as far as the air show..........the runway construction definitely hurt, as well as the backlighting. I think the air show as Jones Beach, allows you get a whole lot closer then Andrews (just my two cents). Looking forward to this weekends show.

...even if you couldn't bring your bag BTW, did you notice all the people that had GIGANTIC backpacks INSIDE the show? After your incident at the security checkpoint, I wonder who these folks got past! Totally inconsistent rules and enforcement of the 1cu ft backpack rule.

At one point they even claimed NO FANNY PACKS... !
