    What stretch of the Hudson do they do the ship parade on? Is it viewable from the Hoboken area?

    Totally agree Fred, it really is a shame about the lack of Navy participation at Jones Beach this year. I really hope they schedule some performers for the show.

    The ships come in through the Narrows under the Verrazano Bridge and into NY Harbor proceeding north up through the harbor and bear left up the Hudson to the George Washington Bridge where they turn around and return to their berthing which varies between the west side of Manhattan and some ports in Staten Island

    The ships do not make it to the GWB any more :-( Sadly so... I have a great viewing platform from the 30th floor of our main building!! Anyway, they have been turning back around 125th st for the past few years, if they even make it that far up north.

    Someone told me it is because dredging the center of the river has not been done for years up near GWB and the draft is not as deep as the navy likes for a safe turnaround. I think is BS, they are doing it to pi$$ me off!

    The preliminary list of participating squadrons has been released. They are;

    VMM-263
    VMFA-106
    VMFA-122

    So it looks like Ospreys and Hornets

    OK, Here is the skinny..... I will not be advising of where this info came from but it is at a very HIGH level.

    The F-35 will be on static display on the U.S.S. Iwo Jima and Osprey's will be landing in Eisenhower park. That is all I have to say about that! ;)

    A flyable F-35? Perhaps from Pax River?

    Fred you must have read my mind. I was about to ask if the Marines would be doing their MAGTF (Marine Air Ground Task Force) Raids around the area. I guess this kinda confirms it.
    And if is ANYTHING like last years I highly recommend checking it out. They used 2 Cobras, a Sea Knight and the V-22 in a choreographed raid/landing in "hostile territory". Then they land, shutdown and Meet and Greet along with walk throughs of the bigger ships. Then the departure with a fast Fly-by.

    actually, yes. shocking i know.
    it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

    I'd consider Long Island hostile territory, too!

    [and to add some useful info, some of the MV-22s and CH-46s staged out of TEB]

    Well I am totally confused now. The Navy just released this "updated" list of ships and units participating in Fleet Week this year. The USS New York is on it. This is the "new" list;

    USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7)
    USS New York (LPD 21)
    USS John L. Hall (FFG 32)
    USS Kauffman (FFG 59)
    USS Carr (FFG 52)
    Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 14

    U.S. MARINES
    24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

    U.S. COAST GUARD
    USCGC Reliance (WMEC 615)
    USCGC Willow (WLB 202)
    USCGC Katherine Walker (WLM 552)
    USCGC Tampa (WMEC 902)

    I guess as we get closer to the actual event we will get more reliable info.
