listen to the ATC recording, i dont know how to link directly to it but its on this page http://www.liveatc.net/recordings.php , the pilot sounds very unprofessional from the beginning and almost like he had the whole beach landing planned, asking if he was allowed to land on the beach, then a medical issue, and then a "rough engine", seems a little strange to me

I heard that too, and that he was a paramedic, and had to drop off a preacher at JFK.... very odd, I think it was planned too

That was really strange - he really sounded like a goofball to start, then the whole deal asking about landing on the beach, then several reasons for making the landing...something just doesn't feel right about this guy. According to Newsday, he departed out of FRG.

From the story in the NY Times, the guy is apparently a fan of the show "Flying Wild Alaska" and told police that was where he got the idea to land on the beach. When the first PD helicopter landed, he said to the officer “What’s the big deal? It happens all the time in Alaska.” The officer replied, “Welcome to New York.” I don't see this ending well for this kid...

Is there any info as to where this plane originated? I'm aware that it came from FRG but was it private owned or rented from one of the clubs?

I knew as soon as I heard the audio that it was no accident.

It was out of SWF, stopped at FRG, then headed to the beach. According to the FAA Registry, the aircraft is registered to a company in Delaware (likely a financial/legal arrangement only) and the pilot lives in Orange County, NY.

Won't end well at all. I see a long suspension or revocation of his license and the NYPD should get reimbursed. This is our version of the bubble boy.
