    JFK 03/15/2011

I went out to JFK today since they were landing on the 13s. I was going to go spotting from the Delta parking lot but decided to move.

It was a nice day out, unfortunately there was a lot of cloud cover. Every now and then the sun would peek out from behind the clouds and offer some nice lighting. I didn't catch anything special. They were sending all the heavies onto runway 22L.

I did get stopped by two people while spotting and taking pictures in the parking lot. Both were a pretty positive experience. About 20 minutes in, an FAA official pulled up and asked me what I was up to. I told him that I was just taking photographs of the planes coming in on approach. He was making sure I wasn't taking pictures of construction project that he was supervising under the landing lights. He pulled out his camera and showed me some of the shots he had taken around the airport. He also encouraged me to get the driver/escort endorsement on my port badge as the taxiways offer better photo opportunities haha.

Before I was about to leave, I had another airport employee come up to me and ask what I was up to. We ended up talking about JFK airport and soon enough he was on his way.

Overall, a very nice experience. I just wish they had vectored more heavies for the 13s.

I will get some photos up later tonight after I'm finished with class.

    And here they are:

Hey Mat! I bailed after the clouds came in. The 4s were so good at sunrise and was able to check off the B6 Jets and Blue's Brothers off the list but not only the clouds but there was a marine layer up there too so I exited stage left. Sorry to miss ya. What time you get there?

I got there around around 1:30 in the afternoon. I stopped by the mounds as well, but the lighting was pretty poor and I couldn't get anything decent.

Same here, spent some time around 13L, and quickly stopped at the Mounds. No decent shots to show off :)

I took my D70s to PHL last month and was pleasantly surprised at how sharp the shots that came out of it were. Great camera despite its age. We don't need no stinkin movie mode

Nick, I have mine still... even went through BGLOD and had it repaired. It was my very first dSLR so it will NEVER leave my hands. I just have it around for nostalgia and for my daughter when she shows more of an interest in learning.

I should bring her out for some sun!

Depending on her age, you don't want her around Nick....haha

Matt, great shots as usual. You sure you can't get us ALL those driver/escort endorsements??? That'd be awfully considerate...lol

Yep it really is a good little cam. Comes in handy when I want to shoot with two bodies too.
