I went out to JFK today since they were landing on the 13s. I was going to go spotting from the Delta parking lot but decided to move.
It was a nice day out, unfortunately there was a lot of cloud cover. Every now and then the sun would peek out from behind the clouds and offer some nice lighting. I didn't catch anything special. They were sending all the heavies onto runway 22L.
I did get stopped by two people while spotting and taking pictures in the parking lot. Both were a pretty positive experience. About 20 minutes in, an FAA official pulled up and asked me what I was up to. I told him that I was just taking photographs of the planes coming in on approach. He was making sure I wasn't taking pictures of construction project that he was supervising under the landing lights. He pulled out his camera and showed me some of the shots he had taken around the airport. He also encouraged me to get the driver/escort endorsement on my port badge as the taxiways offer better photo opportunities haha.
Before I was about to leave, I had another airport employee come up to me and ask what I was up to. We ended up talking about JFK airport and soon enough he was on his way.
Overall, a very nice experience. I just wish they had vectored more heavies for the 13s.
I will get some photos up later tonight after I'm finished with class.
And here they are:
