    American LeMans Series - LimeRock

I wass just going through a memory card from my old camera and realized I still had these shots from LimeRock Park over the summer. I just thought I'd share them with you guys.

I shot those with my old Canon Rebel XTi.

Very cool, Steve! I've been wanting to get to a race at Lime Rock, but it seems like they always run Memorial Day weekend when I'm up to my eyeballs in air show, and the same weekend as Chryslers at Carlisle. One of these days...

Thanks Moose. That race was the second weekend in July last year. I plan on going again this summer hopefully.

Nice shots Steve. I made it up to the Watkins Glen last summer, it was my 1st time trying to take pics of race cars and at the time I only had a 250mm lens so now I cant wait to get some real shots with my 100-400 lens. I do have to make it up to LimeRock as well, just been lazy ! How are the spots there as far as how close you can get ? what size lens where you using ?

Here is my set from the Glen: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9051805...7624566922191/

I can't wait to try out my 100-400 there this summer as well. Last summer I was using the Rebel XTi with a Tamron 18-200mm lens (one of the ones without IS). Up at Lime Rock you can walk around the entire track and can get pretty close to the action. Most of those shots were taken from within 50-100 feet of the track. Most of the time I didn't zoom past 110mm, but I still think the 100-400 will rock up there. I want to try and get a press pass somehow this summer so I can get in the "hot areas" which can get you as close as 20-30 feet from the track.

If you end up going to a race up there this season let me know and I'll try and grab tix and meet up with you and show you all the good spots to shoot from.

I just checked out your pics from Watkins Glen. Thats a place I would like to make it too as well. What is the access like there? Can you roam around throughout the race or so you have an assigned seat on your ticket? Did you have a pit pass to get some of those pics?

Ya for sure I will be in touch once I head up there. That's pretty close comparing to the Glen, if you don't have a press pass there its very hard to get clear shots since they have so many safety barriers all around. BTW I doubt they will give you a press pass of any kind, Ive already looked at the Glen to see what their policy is and pretty much NO WAY unless you work for a major magazine or something !

Yeah, thats what I've heard as far as press passes. I wanted to get one when I went to Loudon back in Sept, but I pretty much came to the same conclusion. And I was so close at loudon too. The yellow line is only 5 feet behind the holes in the fence where the press pass holders were shooting from. I gotta make friends with someone who works for a newspaper or start getting my photos to some of the local papers here.

Thats, what I like at Lime Rock. You don't need credentials to get good shots. I think I may go up to LRP for the NASCAR North Series race to get some stock car photos on a road course from a close up distance.

Good stuff! Someday I might get over to Road America, but planes are a bit more interesting right now.

Yes I do have some shots of the Patron Ferrari. I'll dig them out and throw one up on here.

And Jeremy, I agree with you. I love shooting race cars, but I have definitely love photographing planes more (I finally got the pics to post to my 1-10 thread, check em out).
