    Emergency Response Code 22

Just heard on ATC 12:27am EST, Runway 22. Apparently there is an airplane inbound with gear problems. RWY 22R. Doing a low approach for an inspection. American 180 Heavy (767-200) from LAX. It is DARK out there, I don't know how the heck they can see anything from the ground!

Aircraft is low on fuel so he refused a normal go around. Pilot said he will do a quick turnaround and land 22R. Other planes being asked to execute missed approaches or go around.

    Update: 12:34 2DME

Landed safely. Emergency equipment is checking the landing gear, landing area, brakes, etc. Captain speaking to Emergency trucks directly.

Thanks Jeremy ... Runway just opened up. This had me on the edge of my seat! Made me wish I was there :-) Seems all OK and they are just now taxiing away from the runway and I believe under tow.

I'm glad everything turned out OK, but I'm glad I was nowhere near it. Having worked with air crash survivors, I would never want to potentially witness a crash. They look horrible enough on TV and in dreams.

There was another emergency landing at Kennedy last night before American 180.
American Airlines Flight 85 took off from 22R when it experienced a mechanical malfunction shortly after takeoff.
It was vectored back to the airport for a safe landing on 31L. Emergency equipment was standing by.
A runway inspection reveled no foreign objects.
