BRING BACK THE KJFK/KLGA OBSERVATION DECKS
This is one of Boeing Fields more elusive and unusual visitors up there with the 707 AWACS...both only fly a handful of times a year. It's used (still) as a test bed for the F22 among other programs. Curiously I believe it is the first production frame 757.
Cool looking bird, but I'm not sure that is the first production 757. That bird is Pratt (PW2037) powered, I think the first batch of 757s were RB211-535C powered and were delivered to Eastern and BA. It is an early build though, FAA says its MFR year is 1982.
It's indeed Line Number 1 with model designation 757-200. It came to Baltimore about 5 years ago, and I somehow missed it - up there on the list of my most painful misses (along with ST-PRA and 00-0001); frames that I could have seen except for interference of some sort.
Looks like it could have been called the Flying Nun at one time....
It's the fares, stupid
It actually goes to BWI fairly often considering how often it flies - probably in the neighborhood of once a year at least...along with Edwards. It came to Baltimore about 5 years ago
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BOE57A Last flight was in July of 2010. I knew I wasn't crazy about it being the first build!
I would love to catch 00-0001...which I've heard still comes into PAE now and then but it's never public. I think it's down in CA somewhere.
