Some nice vintage photo's. Reminds me of the time I use to work on the ramp while going to college.
"JFK Evening Rush Hour" is probably my favorite. What's with the white-tailed Transamerica 741? Whose cheatline is that?
Thanks again for some fine scans sir
Great stuff! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for these pictures. Amazing look back.
Are the shots from the 1980s showing the original runways, too?

I thought those were gone long before that. Did JFK ever have 8 operational runways?!?!?! Does anyone have a history of its runway configurations?

I have a map that was drawn up in '84 that my father somehow came into possession of and gave to me. Same 4 runways as there are now. There really is no place to add additional runways. Unless they pull an HNL Reef Runway and turn 31L into 31C...think of the shots you could get from the Rockaways...
I know where the 5th runway was....but 8????

The three most common expressions in aviation are, "Why is it doing that?", "Where are we?" and "Oh Crap".
great stuff!
Thanks Jeremy, and to think that most of them were taken with an instamatic and I was garbage at loading film.

That's the kind of image I was looking for, thanks. There are 7 runways in that picture. You can see what are currently 31L/13R, 31R/13L, and 22R/04L in that image (they look like they're under construction), along with the 4 original runways [two 19/01 runways and two 25/07 runways (headings are approximate)]. So I was wondering if, once they had completed 22L/04R, they had ever used all 8 runways or whether the original ones had been immediately closed. You can see, in the image I had linked, what looks like 31L and what I have called 25L.

Wow, I've never seen that picture before and never knew about the previous runways. Boy did I stick my foot in my mouth. Well at least I learned something new, right?
looks like there were 7 proposed, was that one along the beach as well?
thanks as always for your comments, they are well received.
