Cirrus Crash at FRG

There's been an accident involving a Cessna at FRG on Runway 14. No injuries, airport is closed at this time.

Thank god there were no injuries, but what was the extent of the damage done to the plane?
EDIT: Just drove by, couldn't get a great view because rescue vehicles were on the runway, but it appeared that the Cessna's landing gear was still retracted.....although I could be wrong.

It was N960JB, a Cirrus 22. The right wing has some decent damage. I grabbed a few shots before the ops trucks got in the way. Will post after work tonight.

Well that pretty much squashes my idea that the landing gear was retracted....it's a fixed gear aircraft!

According to someone who say it happen (nobody official, just a guy hanging in the parking lot) he said the aircraft came down "wobbly" landed funny, skidded through the intersection and stopped when the wing hit the ground (between the runway and taxiway). It appears he came to rest on the east side of 19 between taxiways "G" and "D2", closer to "G".

In a situation like this when the runways are shutdown would they (do they?) allow helicopter traffic to
land since they dont use the runways. Or is it a total shutdown?

I suspect they shut down entirely, at least for a while - the Fire/Rescue crews likely take some time making sure the scene is secure, and you wouldn't want something else to happen when it would take some time for them to respond. If the scene is secure, but the aircraft is blocking one runway, they could open the other one for operations until the wreckage is moved.

There's usually an initial investigation after a crash to make sure that the airport is safe to operate at, so I assume it would even be closed to helicopters as well. They want to make sure that cause of the crash was not airport-related and that the airfield is not a hazard.

Also, even though the runway may be the only thing "affected", keep in mind that there are emergency vehicles zooming around the airfield, which can affect all operations.

The airport was on total shutdown for about 60 minutes. Once the "cleanup" was done, apparently he did get some debris on the runway. The airport operations team did a "sweep" of both runways, even though 1/19 was still closed due to construction. They opened the field to helicopters about 10 minutes before they gave the all clear on 14/32 for operations. As an aside, they did allow operations on the field even though the fire/rescue truck was still on scene.

Here is the only shot I was able to get before the airport ops folks parked in front of it on me. Sorry for the poor quality, but I was shooting across the field at the worst time of day for heat haze.
