Every other way either seems to require being set up by 8am, or spending a ton of money. Both are not an option for me, especially with Quonset coming up 2 weeks after.
Just so you know, PATH doesn't run to Liberty State Park. You need to change to the Hudson-Bergen light rail at Pavonia-Newport to get there, and then walk to the park from the station. (I don't know if there's going to be any sort of shuttle bus service for this, but the old LSP shuttle bus was a victim of NJT's recent cuts and doesn't run anymore).

According to the map on their website, it looks like Ellis Island is the perfect spot to be during the air race. Do you think their would be any problem for me standing on the NE side of the island for a few hours and taking pictures from there? Certainly the tickets for the ferry are cheaper then ones for General Admission.

I decided to get reserved seats at Liberty State Park. The GA area was a lot more affordable but you have to get there before the gates open to get a decent spot and you have to stand the whole race. As some of you know if you have little ones under 5 its free and they knock of a couple of bucks for kids 5-14.

Subject: Media Advisory - Aerobatic Flyover

On Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in connection with an air race occurring later this week there will be approximately 30 random flights between 9am-6pm of single engine prop planes (Edge 540 and MXS aircraft) doing aerobatic maneuvers lasting approximately 10 minutes in duration.

These flights will depart Linden Airfield and head south to Raritan Bay (body of water off of Staten Island’s South and Midland Beach Areas, and south of the Verrazano Bridge). Flights to and from Linden will follow Arthur Kill (the channel between Staten Island and Woodbridge, NJ) at altitudes between 1,000' and 1,500'.

On Wednesday, June 16, 2010 approximately 30 random flights between 10am-6pm of single engine prop planes (Edge 540 and MXS aircraft) will be doing aerobatic maneuvers approximately five (5) minutes in duration.

These flights will depart Linden Airfield and proceed towards the Verrazano Bridge following the Staten Island Expressway at altitudes between 1,000’ and 1,200’. Planes will then proceed up the Hudson River and hold south of the Statue of Liberty between 500’ and 1,000’. From this holding position, the planes will have about five (5) minutes in the race box (located just north of Ellis Island--over the water adjacent to Liberty State Park). The planes will return via the same route to Linden Airfield.

There will be 3-5 aircraft flying up and down the Hudson River for a photo session later that afternoon on Wednesday at approximately 6pm. Please note that these planes will be emitting smoke, which is planned and normal for aerobatic planes—the smoke does not indicate any problem with the aircraft. They will be escorted by a helicopter that will be filming the flight.

i was going to get tickets to this, as well as try to bug a friend of mine for pit passes, but decided that Brew Fest was a much more worthwhile venture on my part... it starts at 1530, on governor's island and includes all the free beer i can handle. :borat: :borat:

my gf agreed with my choice of venue too. how sweet is that?!
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I didn't meet Mike but was given a tour today of the garage/pits area by his mechanic Dennis. Very nice guy and I learned alot today from him about the operation and these aircraft.

I was all gung ho and was have been following Red Bull for years. Was completely psyched to go to the NY races.

After a LOT of consideration, we're not going. (Highheels was in shock!)

I just can't see myself paying good money to bring my kids at this age. Not fair to us to bring them and have to chase the 1 and 3 yr old and not be able to pay attention skyward. And we were going to spring for the mid range seats too in Race Club but not worth it if paying too much mind to the kidlings.

My gut was to see it here b/c in NY, who knows if the NIMBYs would ever allow them back.

Looking forward to see the races though. Anyone have an idea what channels are televising locally?
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.
