Continental-United merger could result in more EWR traffic

If approved, the merger is great news for us Newark spotters. United's A320s will be a welcome addition to the EWR sector.

I agree about the 747s, but like the COA 737s and 757s that frequent Newark, most of United's mid-range fleet is comprised of 737s, 757s, and the A320 family. Based on my limited exposure, I would predict that it's likely that these mid-range A320s would be added to the repertoire of existing mid-range airliners along Newark routes. The addition of 747s and other large heavies would be even better, but perhaps not as likely.

Then again, I have no idea what the new United will decide after merging.

The article suggests that United's fleet of 767-300 aircraft could be transferred to EWR from IAD and replace the 757-200 on European routes.
