Humback whale beached in the Hamptons

Just heard on MSNBC. Reported as alive but weak. Hoping some people can work some magic and save this majestic creature!

From Newsday, doesn't look promising for the baby Humpback.

Sounds like it's still alive but nothing can be done. They considered euthanizing it but they're afraid it'll thrash around and hurt someone if they get too close. Sucks.

Truly is, I can't believe with all our technology we can't save this poor whale.

They tried sedating it with darts this morning, but it didn't work. I think it would take more than a couple of darts to affect a 1500 lb animal.

Nature taking it's course? This isn't an old whale dying of old age it was a baby dying of malnutrition. I realize it's not cheap to probably airlift it somewhere to get rehab but I can't help but think the anti-whaling people who spend huge amounts of money to try to stop whaling could prob do a little better in a situation like this and Bob Barker wouldn't have to watch his boat get destroyed.

    BTW whale has died.

According to one report, they tried to euthanize it and it fought back to live... not a nice story at all...

Re: Humback whale beached in the Hamptons

Apparently one of the 2lb darts actually missed (you couldn't hit the broad side of a whale!) and got washed away. So uhhh...yeah, keep an eye out to avoid getting stabbed/euthanized next time you're at the beach in the Hamptons.

New report...an injuried seal pup has washed up on the same beach near where the Humpback died.

Well we should have a better outcome than the whale. Hopefully it will end like this guy.

I'm real late to the whale story but why couldn't it be saved?
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.
