I was going to say F-105 as well, but the nose seems a little short under the tarp there, no? If not, F-100 maybe?

Wow. After he said it wasn't the F-100 or -105 I thought Concorde but didn't understand how it would be scaled.....you might just be right h20!!!!!

    Great thread, by the way.

    Correct Sir!

back of the aircraft goes all the way to the back wall...it dwarfs the duel seat F-105!

Re: Can anyone guess the airframe under the tarp?

Cradle of Aviaition... they wanted to put it at the entrance on a pole...but the cost and insurance was soo high they could have shipped aircraft from Arizona for display...way too much money to put outside at the entrance and way to big to put inside when they have E-2C's that are real sitting outside....ya know, real historic aircraft as the E-2 is the FIRST aircraft of it's type made by Grumman to test equipment.... So there it sits

If anyone has the money to mount it outside....why not just get a real historic aircraft from Arizona? Decisions decisions!

I was told it originally was going to go to the Intrepid...but I think that would be dumb (as they have a full size one and all)

    How long is that model?

The rightful place to put a Concorde is at JFK. It is one only airport in the world that had the most Concorde movements and without which would not even exist.

How long is that bird? With JFK security as high as it is, they should find a place to take that model and perch it.

Let's start a letter writing campaign to the Port Authority!

The model is owned now by the cradle...that is kind of like saying that your house is a historic landmark you do not deserve it so we will take it and put it on historical ground where it should be.

Fred, I don't follow. So Cradle owns it and has no plans for using it at all? And are you saying they wouldn't work with the PANYNY?

Re: Can anyone guess the airframe under the tarp?

sure, they want to do something with it.... They wanted it to be the gate guard but lack funding. I do not think they would let it go...would you? I sure would imagine that they will do something with it, but right now there are other projects with aircraft that are real to work on. Asking PAPD if they want to do something with an object that is not theirs seems a little odd when everyone has their own Idea on what should be done with it. If you were serious about putting it at JFK I would ask the curator of the Cradle. I think he would shut that Idea down real quick as would any of us were in his shoes. It would probably go something like this.

Mario: It should be displayed at JFK where thousands would enjoy seeing it as that is where the aircraft flew and
    it was destined to be.

Head Cheese: You would want to see it outside rotting where it would not be cared for? NO WAY, It is MINE MINE MINE
    (in perfect Yosamite Sam voice)

If it were outside at the cradle, they would probably wax it 10 times a year...In 2 feet of snow, climbing Up Hill, Both ways.
Seriously, I could not see them letting it go. I do not think it will sit forever...they love aviation too much over there to
    let that happen.
