    Delta Buying 11 Used MD-90s

    Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Delta to buy used MD-90 jets
Delta Air Lines is buying 11 used MD-90 jets to add to its fleet, although the added capacity will be offset by cuts among other models.

Atlanta-based Delta is buying nine of the twin-engine planes from China Eastern Airlines and has another two used MD-90s on order from Boeing Capital.
Also hearing of possible discussions that DL will buy some or all of JAL's 16 MD-90s.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

I think this is to replace some MD-88 aircraft they have. The 88 still have the JT8's on them and the MD-90 has newer more fuel efficient engines on it. I would like to see them fly the MD-90 into JFK. They currently dont. It could also be to replace the DC-9-31's they got from NWA. JT8-1's on those beauties. They got rid of all but 6 of the -31's to my knowledge.

Sergio, you are correct. If I am not mistaken these MD-90's were actually "Made In China".

    You are mistaken.

40 aircraft were originally planned to be built by SAIC, which was later reduced to 20. In the end, only two MD-90s were ever produced in China, CN 60001 and 60002. We will not take any of the MD-90 "Trunkliners" built by SAIC; these two aircraft are in service with China Southern currently.

In addition, a handful of MD-80s were produced by SAIC in China.

Of course. Though i'm kinda shocked. Also that plan apparantly backfired hard.

    dislexia sucks, doesn't it.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

MD-11 is a good plane just a major major flaw in its design thats cutting its lifetime short.
