Hi Folks, the wife and I have decided it is finally time to retire our 7 year old Dell desktop PC. On a PC knowledge scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being retarted and 10 being an expert (actual, not self proclaimed) I am probably around a 4. Because many of you are probably in the 4 highest levels on the scale I am going to list some questions, if some of you would like to answer at least 1 that would be great. As I am a poor airline employee we only want to spend around $500-600 total for the PC and an 18-20 inch flat screen monitor. While I am impressed by Apple maybe next time when we have more funds, only windows based this time. Ready, set. go !
I am hearing a lot of programs that run on windows XP or vista do not run on windows 7. Sounds like a scam to get consumers to spend more to me, any windows 7 users care to coment?
I am reading/hearing Windows Vista was not a huge sucess? For those using Vista would u recommend to a friend or buy another PC with it ?
I am pretty happy with windows XP, have it on the old desktop and fairly new netbook. As part of me wants to stay with XP I am actually considering going the refurbished route, as I could stay with XP and be able to afford a more powerful PC. Anyone on here recently purchased a refurbished PC or have friends who have? If so feedback appreciated?
As some of you know Circuit city is still alive sort of. Another company bought the name and has a pretty big online home electronics business. If I do go the refurbished route they seem to be the leader. Anyone bought from them (the new online version, not the original) or have friends who have? Feedback, would you recommend then to a friend?
Last question. My biggest gripe about the PC's at work, to a lessor extent my netbook (1 GB 160 GB HD) and sometimes the old Dell at home (it is still the best of the 3) is problems watching videos on youtube of similar sites. You know the constant pausing/stopping during playback. What is the best thing I could do in selecting my new PC to have the best video performance possible. Minimum memory size ? Hard drive size? other?
The new PC will be primarily used for internet surfing, Microsoft office products, and photo and later video editing, no gaming.
All for now folks, thank you very much in advance for your help !
Cheers
