Burglar Trips Beer Can Alarm in Fargo, ND
FARGO, N.D. - A resident of a Fargo, North Dakota apartment building doesn't lock his doors, instead setting empty beer cans on a stepstool in front of the door as a makeshift alarm system.
The beer can alarm was tripped overnight, waking the resident and leading to a fight between the two men.
Fargo police were called to the apartment building at 1:24 a.m. Wednesday on a call of two elderly, naked men attacking each other. The men weren't naked, but police found them fighting in the apartment. Fargo Police Sgt. Bill Ahlfeldt said the fight started when the resident heard the beer cans, turned on his light and saw the intruder in a closet by the front door. Daniel Gable, 61, was arrested for burglary and booked into the Cass County Jail. Gable is also a resident of the building and police believe he may have thought he was walking into his own unit.
Ahlfeldt said alcohol was a factor in the incident.
