    DC-8 HB-IGH In The Desert :(

Not sure when they put it in the desert, but this photo was taken in June. I remember this one coming into JFK for UN Week I think the year before last.

Looks like that UN flight was one of its last. Anet has a shot of her at Goodyear in Dec. 2007, not long after an Art Brett shot of her arriving at UN Week in Sept. 2007.

Celebrated her 40th birthday this year, delivered to United in 1969.

shame, she's beautiful! i loved the way DC-8s and 707s look wearing high-bypass fans. i'd bet a C or D-check came due prior to it being parked. i think this makes NASA, DHL and UPS the only operators of modified DC-8s.

nick, i've got to make it out to the desert this year. i'd rather shoot parked beauties over flying 'busses!
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Me too. I think I was there when we shot that.
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

    Looks sort of like a four-engined E190.

Actually UPS grounded all of their DC-8's in june-july. DHL is the only carrier flying the birds now.

You would enjoy GYR. It's def an awesome place.

I'd much rather see her in the skies...
So would we all, but our reality and the people who have to fly these things are a bit different.

+ Air Transport International (http://www.airtransport.cc/) They have a bunch of DC-8Fs still flying in addition to 762F's.

Also National Airlines, and Cygnus is still flying the CFM 8s! UPS ground those 8s I believe in 2008..

And believe it or not, there are still many DC8s flying with those cigarette JTs!

UPS grounded every single DC-8 they had between May and June 09 because of the economy. I have a feeling some of them might be back with the turn around becuase they also dropped all of their 3 holers and 742's. When things pick up they will have to get something to keep up and i'm figuring DC-8's will be back and maby a few 3 holers. Can only wait and see though.
