ILS 13L at JFK this morning

JFK seemed to be using the ILS 13L Approach this morning and LGA was using either the ILS 13 or LOC 13 Approach. As a non-pilot, I can't tell the difference. They probably switched to the 4's by now now the wind shifted so the ILS 22L Approach is in use.

The difference between an ILS and LOC approach is that the ILS is a precision approach while the Localizer is non-precision approach. A precision approach is when electronic glideslope information is provided while in a non-precision approach, electronic glideslope information is not provided. The glideslope provides vertical guidance to the runway threshold while the localizer provides horizontal guidance.

    Yes, that is correct...

But we did do 13L takeoffs, with acouple 777s taking advantage of the ALS...

I was aware of the difference between an ILS Approach and a Localizer Approach, but I wasn't sure which LGA was using. That simple.

Unfortunately your initial question wasnt clear, AirTraffic Controller answered the question perfectly.

When JFK is landing ILS 13L, LGA is forced to use the ILS to 13 as well , this avoids conflicting traffic with JFK. With the 13's in use at LGA and JFK, It also forces TEB and EWR into specifc configurations to also avoid conflicts with LGA

LGA can also use rwy 22 to land when JFK is on ILS 13L.
