Just read the story....this country should be ashamed for doing this to these Seals. This terrorist got off easy with just a sucker punch.

So they beat a guy who was in custody, then lied to try to cover it up. Regardless of who the prisoner is, that's wrong.

Another blow to our military. Moose may have a point but what is unfortunate is that the current administration wants to treat war as a legal issue and long tem that will be a disaster. Another fact that seems to get lost with the DNC. Things don't always go smoothly fighting a war and if we are going to treat things from a legal standpoint we may as well quit now. Taking and or showing the world we can take the high road is a political sound byte. In practice on the battlefield it's recipe for failure. I hope we remember this when we go into the voting booth in 2010 and 2012.

Im of the same thinking. Why? America is a symbol of many things. We are, put simply, better than that and for that behavior to be shown from the upper echelons of the military is deplorable.

Taking the high road does not equate to taking it up the coolie either. Where is TR when we need him?

THats the problem with Obama. Its great to bea good speaker as well as exercise more diplomacy but he needs a bit of cowboy giddy up as well.

When are we going to wake up? Seemed the whole world ("international community") was feigned sickness over Gitmo, but yet, with the dubious exception of Saudi Arabia, no country wants those "prisoners" back on their own soil... for any purpose - trial, freedom, prison -- excepting that there may be a small percentage of people there inappropriately. So what does their opinion matter, since it is insincere?

Our government did not seem to have a problem holding, and then handing over, Saddam Hussein to gleeful executioners.. nor did it flinch from a seemingly few questions asked execution of Timothy McVeigh. Does anyone here know why he did what he did?

But now we get custody of foreign terrorists who have declared war on America, and we are putting them in court? This is insane....

Apparently those Seals are guilty of something, but I think a pardon should be in order. Note that a pardon does not denote innocence, but merely that one is pardoned from punishment.

I hear what you are saying & I agree with you on that point!

Now, the problem that I do have is the way this whole mess is being handled, for something like this, you handle it quietly, internally, a couple of days without pay is punishment enough...

If I was in the Navy Seals shoes, I would have proudly admitted that I smacked the terrorist around and would have not lied about it

I have to agree with that. They should have admitted it and they would be in a lot less trouble.

They were offered a non-judicial punishment, and refused, so that they could get their day in court.

I think that's the bigger issue - it always seems like people get into more trouble when they try to cover up their actions than if they simply admitted it and took their punishment.
