Arik Air Announces LOG-JFK Starting November 29th

Airk Air has finally announced the inauguration of flights between Lagos and JFK starting on November 29th. The direct flight will initially operate 3xweekly.

Unfortunately the schedule does not favor the spotter:

Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday the inbound flight arrives at 5:50am
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the outbound flight departs at 10:00pm

Seems like the aircraft has a VERY long ground layover.

GREAT finally something worth going out for. Its also great to see a new African airline other than SAA coming into JFK. Since I moved here we lost Nigeria B742, Ghana DC10 , and Ethiopia 763.

Hi, according to an application before the US DOT, Arik Air is planning to start service to JFK with its own aircraft in mid-2011:

in New York on a wetlease basis with Hi Fly Transportes Aereos, S.A.l In mid-20 11, Arik Air intends to institute service three times weekly on a non-wetlease basis from Lagos, Nigeria to both Houston ("IAH") and JFK.
