nice pics senga. I see you can get real close at SWF, I am going to have to shoot up there one day. Ive only seen it from the air before.
Yes you can get really close. I fly into SWF a lot as well.
Its my favorite local airport.

I'm at SWF right now. Did some passes near the State Police entrance and got some (bad) photos. There was a large brigade of police/Fed vehicles that shot by me so I backed away. Fuerza Aerea Espanola T-22.1 (A310- not sure about that ID). Air Zimbabwe 767-3 also parked near. Will post again when home.

Motorcade Madness on the Upper east side especially today. We were on the patio of our job watching one motorcade come down
Lex Avenue in traffic, sirens wailing and Suburbans cutting off cars and agents hanging out windows. You can tell how important the
diplomat is by the size of his motorcade, whether crossing traffic is stopped or if PD is flying overhead.
All very cool.
How long is the drive from JFK to SWF?
"I can't get off till you get off!!" -AA flight attendant in DFW
It's about 90 miles, so hour and a half or two hours.

We saw A318 VQ-BDD today at MCO on the Signature ramp
Going out tomorrow in the late morning with my son, after the rain. Bringing a camera, a football and a soccerball and just looking to hang and plane watch.
Boys day out, no women,
Anyone heading out? ANd if so, where to go?
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...

I may be out, if so, I'll give you a call. Where depends on runway use, so it will be a game-time decision.

Wendy,
For me its about 1 hour. I always enjoy it especially during the fall months, I take Route 9 all the way up to I-84 and then go west to SWF. It takes me into the mountains unlike I-87.
Gerard,
Yea I had a few close calls myself over the years. I have a habit of shooting VIP planes and SOMEHOW getting stuck smack dab it the middle of the convoys. I hate it when that happens.

Been in about an hour now from a fantastic day out spotting UN jets! Thanks to Garry who did the logging, while I took the left seat and drove..
Our first stop was Wappinger Falls/Dutchess County. Gee - since we have driven by the exit off the highway many times, and as we were running earlier than previous years we took the detour. Nice to put 50 or so tin in the book.. Every little helps!
From there it was a quick drive to SWF..
Well what a bumper haul there was today! Stewart certainly didnt disappoint with the following:

plus a host of others - but my notebook is still in the car! Lets not forget the C130 and C5s over the military side of the base. Should be some new ones in that lot too!
After Stewart, me and Garry drove to TEB, to see if anything was there.. Actually plenty of foreigners in the mix, including G- C- PT- XA- EC- OY- VP- and HB- plus of course the usual cast of characters and residents.
Lunch, fuel (at 2.39/gall it would be rude not too!) and a drive by was all we had time for today, because we wanted to see what delights were down at Newark.. A couple of VP- on the biz ramp, along with normal N traffic wasnt too disappointing, but as there was nothing else spectacular and we were pushing towards rush hour it was time to cut bait and head east to JFK!
Any evidence of UN traffic was lacking (when we were there), but we still did a ride around the terminals on the airtrain with VT-ALH the newer of Air India's 777s being one of the more interesting frames!
After a quick break in the old Pan Am terminal, (the one that had the car park on top where you could spot from) gosh it looks so tatty in there, Garry and I left JFK for our last port of call, Republic (FRG) in the hopes of scoring the Czech airbus which I understood was there. After battling the rush hour traffic we arrived at FRG with about 50 mins daylight left. Sadly the Czech bus wasn't around, but a big surprise was TC-ANA. Very smart scheme, making up the for the loss of the OK-. The other pleasant moment was seeing the IL62 overhead on finals to JFK at approx 630pm.. Reg anyone?
After logging the spam parked on the ramp outside the restaurant Garry and I did the perimeter tour logging what could be seen. Republic is an airport we need to visit when we aren't rushing around the tri state area!
So all in all an excellent day, although the car did block its copy book when it refused to start at FRG. Despite a jump start from a man in a van the Saturn seemed like it wasn't going to fire up! Fifteen minutes and a little coercion, we were back in action and ready for the 200 mile trip home!
Today has been one of the best spotting days I have had in a while! :D
