Props with banners flying near the beach

I was at Point Pleasant, NJ this Saturday and watched many Piper Cubs carrying banners up and down the shoreline like a two way road. My questions is how do they take-off and land with the banners? Is the banner curled up then released after take-off and is the banner released over the field before landing? Feedback will be appreciated.

The banner is laid out on the ground, with the tow rope supported in the air. The aircraft makes a low pass and uses a hook to grab the rope and pull the banner into the air. They will release the banner over the airfield when done. Here's a YouTube video showing a banner pickup:

I used to be friends with a guy who flew one of those in California. Pretty decent scratch but it's a very dangerous job.

Where do they do the drops & pick-ups around here?

i can confirm, they're usually laid out in the grass along Rwy 6/24
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

There's an op out of Central Jersey Regional down in Manville. Great group of guys, and they treated us with a little airshow a few weeks ago.

I can't tell you the name of the company, though easily seachable. What they pulled wasn't exactly FAR approved.

In fact, the video Moose posted is the same company at 47N.

Was. The old-timers still say "Kupper traffic" on the unicom occasionally.

I remember every summer laying on the beach at Seaside Heights and seeing 10-15 of these flying up and down the shoreline. Even saw one of the planes that was found to have run out of fuel crash into Barnegat Bay.
