Like I said, I saw the trailer and knew it wasn't something I wanted to see. Of course, I'm sure it's a given that 80% of the people that see the movie are doing so because of the name. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it might be great, but to tack on the GI Joe name is an insult and scam in my mind.

What exactly was GI Joe to begin with? I thought it was just a doll...er, "action figure"..
I can remember Sgt Rock and Nick Furry were in the comic books, but not GI Joe though..

Went to see District 9 on Sunday night, & I thought the movie was ok. Action was good, acting was superb, but, the story was a little on the weak side.

From wikipedia: "The basic premise of the 1985 series was "good vs. evil". The show's opening theme song included the narration: "G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring, highly trained special mission force. Its purpose: to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world", explaining the show's premise.Originally Posted by Tom_Turner
The show featured physical fighting and high-tech weapons as a way to compensate for toned-down violence and lack of bullets in what was seen to be a children's program. The show also featured public service announcements placed at the end of each show. These PSAs ended with the phrase: "Now you know, and knowing is half the battle."

I saw GI Joe with my girlfriend last week. It sucked. I was a HUGE fan of the cartoon series too. I would not recommend seeing it unless it's a rental.
There was a movie from 1945 called "The Story of GI Joe" and can be caught on TCM.
