Starting to see a generous amount of Airbii and DC-9's in Delta colors here in the Tampa area. Hve not heard on ATC Comm's the Northwest in Delta Colors Callsign however. Are they just saying this while on Ground Control ?

I've heard it a couple of times - I specifically remember a couple of weeks ago, when I caught the A330 in Delta colors arriving at JFK, using "Northwest in Delta colors" when they contacted tower on the approach.

At LGA is getting where we see at least 2 or 3 DL A-319/320's a day, sometimes 4 or 5. As far as the 9's the scheduled ones are all -30's but they occasionally sub in -50's and I have seen DL ones 3 times so far.

The one I saw today was a 50
I would venture to guess that the pilots only need to say "Northwest in Delta colors" when talking to a controller who can see them to assist in not confusing the controller. Which would mean Tower and Ground frequencies. Are they just saying this while on Ground Control ?
Just my opinion though.
