    JFK Runway & taxiway improvements

Hopefully somebody who knows how (I do not) can post a copy of an article in todays Newsday (pA21). The article is a pretty in depth breakdown and schedule of the coming runway and taxiway improvements.

Port Authority official lauds JFK plan

Five minutes of delays will be trimmed from the most tardy flights at Kennedy Airport when a multimillion-dollar project to widen a major runway and expand taxiways is complete in 2011, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's top aviation official said Thursday.

Overhauling and increasing the width of Kennedy's longest and busiest runway from 150 to 200 feet, along with upgrades of taxiway circulation routes for aircraft, will yield the reduced flight delays, Bill DeCota, the Port Authority's aviation director, said at an agency meeting in Manhattan.

"I can't underestimate the significant delay reduction that comes out of this program," he said. [Full Article]
Sounds like they're going to install some high-speed turnoffs, some new lights and new sewers. How much this will reduce delays is highly debatable.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

The article fails to mention the 400,000 that was just spent on resurfacing and rebuilding part of taxiway Bravo along side 22R which is now going to be torn up for other improvements.

It sounds like it is going to ease some of the conga lines just a pinch but every bit matters. As far as resurfacing Bravo its just normal. Port resurfaces lga entirely every year

I do think that's pretty stupid at least if it was more than the "micro screening" that the port does to runway and taxiway surfaces
