    Air Berlin

I spotted an Airbus near my house approaching the CRI VOR on Wednesday. It was Air Berlin A332 from Dusseldorf. Flight 3550. I never saw this airline before at JFK. When did it start coming here? I'm also surprised that she didn't arrive via VOR/DME 22L. I also spotted the KAL B744 18,000 feet over the Hudson River yesterday around 1050. It was easily seen from the flight deck of the USS Iwo Jima.

Air Berlin is/was LTU, LTU's been flying to JFK for many years now.

That makes sense. LTU also flew from Dusseldorf. Did LTU go go out business? I remember the bright orange tail of the LTU TriStar decades ago.

Air Berlin bought LTU in 2007.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

They suspended the route last fall due to the economy. It was restarted 4 days a week in APR and went daily in May. Really not a bad bird t all for the density.
