Had to drag out the scanner tonight, and thought I'd scan a few slides. I still need to experiment with my settings some. These are all old Air Force / air show slides...
Finally found this one...the "Gate Guard" at Columbus AFB. It wasn't actually at the gate, but along the road after you entered base. The tail number, 08502, notes my UPT class, 85-02. Each incoming class would change the number to match their class number, but it had to be done covertly, as we weren't officially allowed to "deface" the aircraft.
While I was at ROTC field training, in the Summer of 1981, they sent us to Columbus AFB for the day, and we all got a T-37 ride. They left a T-37 and T-38 out for us to check out while waiting for our ride.
My ROTC field training flight...can you pick me out?
Before my last year of ROTC, I got to spend 3 weeks at Holloman AFB, shadowing an active duty officer, to see what the "real Air Force" was like. I managed to get several rides in the AT-38B, which was used for Lead In Fighter Training. At the time, they were the only USAF T-38s in this paint scheme.
RF-4C at Columbus...they held a "Career Day" where different aircraft flew in, and the pilots got to describe their mission. The RF-4 guy got on stage and said "They won't let me say f*ing fast, f*ing low, so I can't tell you what it's like to fly the RF-4", (only he didn't use asterisks )
How about a few airshow photos? These are from McGuire AFB in 1982:
RAF Vulcan bomber
TF-104G  (with a TA-4 in the background)
And I'll finish up with a few refueling shots. These are F-16s out of McDill AFB, we were down there for week in 1986 working with the fighter squadron.
Here's an F-16B trainer (this aircraft later was sold to Israel)
And a few from the other end of the boom.
