nice, glad you got to cirlcle lady liberty. it's a shame you can't make it up the east river anymore. there was a time (i feel old saying this) when you could fly up the east river all the way up to the williamsburg bridge before having to turn around. that eventually became the manhattan bridge, then the brooklyn and thanks to mr. schmuck we can't do it anymore after the cory lidle incident.

feel proud, you flew in airspace today made famous by the one and only capt. sullivan.
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Huh? You can go up the east river any time you want. You just have to call LGA TCA (126.05) for a clearance. I hear people flying the east river transition all the time. It's a nice way to see the city.

what's the point of being in a corridor that's uncontrolled if you have to talk to someone to go though it?

Effectively it is controlled, it just isn't qualified as Bravo airspace. Like I pointed out earlier, it's a great way to see the city.

i concur with HPNpilot....though i havent flown the east river (i frequently take people around the hudson), it does seem like a great way to see the city. Who cares if it's "controlled"? Just because you have to talk to someone doesn't mean that you can't still enjoy the view. Besides, if you do it at the right time you never know, maybe you'll luck out and get a bored LGA controller on a quiet evening who asks you to do a flyby over one of their runways...happened to me one time over EWR...
Have you ever seen a grown man naked?

i fly into and out of JRB on a daily basis, and talking to ATC is the last thing on my mind. usually i get away with taking the southern route around coney island and over the verranzano before making a straight line into JRB. i only use the track routings when the wx is down, and when it's raining i luck out as the boss doesn't fly because he doesn't want to walk to the office in the rain.

when i do fly for pleasure i want to be one with the airplane. don't need the chatter of a frequency in my ears. i get enough of that in the office.

It sounds like you are coming in from the east following the shoreline but dont you still have to contact JFK Tower at a certain point
    by Jones Beach?

call them once to get through the "B", then i just announce intentions at JRB.

Do you use 123.050 along the coast to keep in touch with other aircraft before and after calling JFK? I know, especially in the summer, lots of aircraft fly along the Jones Beach/Rockaways corridor east and westbound.
