    SAA Changes JFK-JNB to direct

Per the email I got today from SAA...

May 1 - New York to JNB is going to be a direct flight - times have changed as well

SA204 now JFK depart 11:35am - JNB 08:45am next day
SA203 now JNB depart 7:10pm - JNB 7:40am next day - as far as I know, this is still a tech stop in DKR.

    It's still the A340-300E

Haven't they switched back and forth between direct and indirect a couple times already?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

Re: SAA Changes JFK-JNB to direct

I know the IAD-JNB south-bound is direct - and - maybe at one stage, the JFK-JNB used to be direct when it was the 744, but I think the A340 has been a stop. When we went ATL-JNB in 2003 on a 744 - the direct route was JNB-CPT with the tech stop in CPT before going on to JNB. I know for fact from a friend who is a pilot with SAA that the north-bound routes have always had a stop - one of the reasons being the hot-n-high ops out of JNB. I'm really interested to hear what load/weight/fuel factors Delta (Chris W - you might be able to get more info on this when it starts) is going to use on the B772LR when it's direct JNB-ATL.
