    EWR Departures over Midtown

Recently, I spotted a UPS aircraft flying over Midtown. I knew it wasn't from LGA because it was heading in a NE direction. When I looked the flight up, UPS 235, I learned that it was a EWR departure off of Rwy 22R heading to the UK. It was a GREKI departure. Somehow, I never realized that EWR departures fly-over Midtown. Now I know.

Yup, when my Wife and I flew to Barcelona for our honeymoon we departed out over Manhattan. Beautiful at night.

I love those departures...it's the only glimpse at heavies I get here near LGA. I often see Virgin's morning A340 service to LHR climbing overhead as I walk to the train in the AM.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

whenever i'm headed for BOS,out of EWR,or TEB,we always get the grand tour of Manhattan at between 6-8000 feet, always lovely.
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!
