Hey guys,
this weekend yielded some very exciting visitors at IAD - not one, but TWO 707s. While hiding from the cold behind a hot white mocha at Starbucks on Saturday morning, I get an alert on my phone - John Travolta's 707 is due into IAD later that afternoon! I head out to the airport immediately and meet up with Rafal on top of one of the garages. The flight hadn't departed SWF at that point. We grab some snacks from the gas station and I get an alert that the flight just took-off. "Great", I say, "we still have an hour to make our way to the spot under the approach path". We get going and I decide to check the tracker again - which now shows only 30 minutes of flight time left. I reload the page and now it shows only 15 minutes left! At this point I turn on my scanner and just then, I hear Vinnie Vega himself confirm a descent to 3000' with the approach controller. WOW. We make it to the spot with less than a minute to spare, so the following shots are really the product of pure, blind luck. Note, these are just quick edits done with iPhoto (Jobs should tell his boys and girls to work on incorporating a more functional editor).
The next day, we were greeted with a visit by another 707, N88ZL. A last-minute runway change meant some more running around, but we were able to get some nice shots in the end. All in all, a very productive weekend.
Greets,
-Omar S. :D
